Trifloxysulfuron-sodium Applied Early Preplant in Cotton for the Control of Horseweed and Winter Annuals

James C. Holloway, J.C. Sanders, L. Glasgow, E. Palmer, and B.W. Minton. Syngenta Crop Protection, 872 Harts Bridge Rd, Jackson, TN 38301

Envoke is a post emergent cotton herbicide developed by Syngenta Crop Protection. Envoke has been on the market for two years and has received rave reviews. In 2004, Syngenta Scientist started a series of test to determine the effects of Envoke's activity on winter weeds, specifically, glyphosate resistant horseweed. The application of 0.1 oz/A of Envoke in November provides excellent residual control of horseweed through the following spring. Envoke can be applied at 0.1 oz/A from November 1st until 90 days before cotton harvest. As of this writing, a 24 C status has been approved for Fall Envoke applications in MS and MO while waiting on approvals from AR and TN. Envoke can be applied at 0.1 oz/A from November 1st until 90 days before cotton harvest. Syngenta Crop Protection hopes to have a full section 3 label for this use soon.
