Insecticide efficacy data were collected from field and laboratory tests using different insecticide chemistries. Represented chemistries included neonicotinoid, pyrethroid, organophosphate, and growth regulator applied at thresholds recommended in the cotton insect control guide lines for Mississippi. Data were taken from cotton planted in June to insure high insect populations. Field test results showed that the organophosphates appear to be much less effective on tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris, than in previous years. Stink bug nymphs and adults were effectively controlled with cyfluthrin and cyhalothrin. Laboratory and field tests showed that mixtures of acephate and imidacloprid provided good control of thrips on seedling cotton. These tests indicate what several other research efforts have shown and that is both pyrethroids and organophosphates are greatly declining in their efficacy in control of plant bugs and possibly some other cotton insects.
