Development of a Fiber Quality Score (QS) Based on 4 HVI Properties

A fiber quality score (QS) is being developed to allow comparison of varieties in an easy, straight forward manner. QS is based on HVI properties upper half mean length (UHM), micronaire (Mic), uniformity index (UI), and strength. Calculation of the QS is based on transformation of the data and then weights assigned as follows: .50 for UHM, .25 for Mic, .15 for UI, and .10 for strength. The scale of the QS is 0 to 100 with 0 representing the lowest quality and 100 representing the highest quality.
