WEIGHMAX Nuclear weight scales consist of a sealed radioactive source in a source holder, a detector of radiation and an electronic interface package. The source holder is mounted above the conveyor (belt or screw) with the detector below. A fan shaped (collimated) beam of radiation is transmitted from the source though the cottonseed and conveyor to the detector. The greater the mass of the cottonseed, the lower the radiation field at the detector; the lower the mass of the cottonseed, the higher the radiation field at the detector. The scale consists of a nuclear source and an ion chamber detector. When radiation strikes the ion chamber, an electrical current is produced proportional to the amount of radiation detected. This is converted by the electronics to a frequency output which is transmitted to an external electronics. The external electronics takes into account additional variables, such as belt or screw speed, and converts the measurement into a total weight or a weight per time period output. Nuclear weight scale frames simply reassemble around existing conveyors there is no requirement for intricate alignments or floor preparation. This makes an ease installation and lower cost. WeighMax is reliable and low maintenance, non-contact, no moving parts and immune to dust and high vibration environments.
