A new mechanistic model that describes the local dynamics of a collapsing population of cotton aphids is presented in this paper. The model is applied to experimental field data collected from a 50 acre pie in 2003 and 2004 near Lamesa, Texas. The resulting predictions of the peak and cumulative density of the population are shown to be highly accurate and robust to between variations.
