The goal of this study is to compare and improve the efficiency of breeding programs for fiber and yarn quality. The study will compare the efficiency of a breeding program using only HVI versus using HVI and AFIS data when making plant selections, starting with the F2 generation. Selections will be made and lines will be evaluated through the spinning process in the final stages of the project. The progress of each selection method (one set of fiber data vs. two sets) will be compared. This study is in the second year. Preliminary data from the 2005 trial will be presented.
