DP 515 BG/RR is a new mid-full picker variety that contains the Bollgard and Roundup Ready transgenes. The variety was developed by Dr. Curtis Williams at D&PL's Tifton, GA, research facility. Our data indicate that DP 515 BG/RR has yielded comparably to DP 555 BG/RR, the leading variety across the Southeast and Midsouth regions of the cotton belt, while producing fiber quality superior to DP 555 BG/RR. Additionally, seedling vigor was improved and seed size was increased, when compared to DP 555 BG/RR. Plants of DP 515 BG/RR were tall, but not as aggressive as those of DP 555 BG/RR, suggesting easier growth control with the new variety. The maturity of DP 515 BG/RR was 5 to 7 days earlier than DP 555 BG/RR, suggesting our new variety as an excellent companion variety to DP 555 BG/RR. We expect to have adequate supply of DP 515 BG/RR to meet market demand.
