Seed treatments have been a common practice for several years in protecting cotton seedlings from early season diseases and insects. With the recent product offering of Avicta Complete Pak, cotton growers across the cotton belt can now get complete early season protection against not only insects and diseases, but also protection against nematodes. Avicta Complete Pak is a promotional offering of three seed treatment products, Avicta (nematode protection), Cruiser (insect protection) and Dynasty CST (disease protection) that will be available to growers in 2006. In many areas of cotton production in the United States, nematodes remain one of the most important, and often most under-managed, pest problems for cotton growers. This presentation will focus on the importance of early-season management of three types of parasitic nematodes (southern root-knot, reniform, and Columbia lance) with the use of Avicta Complete Pak compared to other nematicide standards, such as the use of aldicarb (Temik) placed in the furrow at planting.
