REIGN SC is a new, low-dose plant growth regulator that recently received registration from the U.S. EPA for use on cotton. Reign SC is based on the active ingredient cyclanilide, which is known to be a potent auxin transport inhibitor. In addition to cyclanilide, REIGN SC also contains the active ingredient mepiquat chloride, which limits the biosynthesis of gibberellic acid.

Extensive field testing with REIGN SC, formerly known as TADS 15338, was conducted across the Cotton Belt in 2005 with Extension Cotton Specialists or Cotton Physiologists. Sequential applications of REIGN SC were compared to a standard mepiquat chloride treatment regime for control of excessive vegetative growth, as well as for earliness and yield effects.

Unlike currently labeled plant growth regulators being used on cotton, REIGN SC will be recommended at low use rates ranging from 1.5 up to 3.0 fluid ounces per acre depending on application timing and degree of vegetative vigor in the field at the time of application. REIGN SC will be launched in 2006 and should prove to be a very effective tool for cotton producers across the Cotton Belt who want to manage excess vegetative growth and achieve earlier crop maturity.
