In light of the recent substantial increase in nitrogen fertilizer costs, a review of nitrogen fertilizer studies on cotton in Georgia will be given. The studies presented will include those done in the past, including a brief history of nitrogen fertilizer recommendations. Then current studies involving nitrogen sources, rates and application methods will be given. These will include foliar nitrogen studies and products such as urease inhibitors. Finally, a look to the future will include studies planned in the future to help farmers supply adequate nitrogen for optimum economic yields. Use of by-product nitrogen sources such as anmial wastes like chicken litter will also be discussed.
