New Pima and Acala varieties from Delta and Pine Land Company: DP 353 Pima and DP 6222 RR Acala

Delta and Pine Land Company will release DP 353 Pima for the 2006 growing season. DP 353 Pima is an early to mid maturity Pima variety with medium plant height and a seed size of 3000 to 3600 seeds per pound. In the 2004 University of California Approved Pima tests, DP 353 Pima (tested as OA 353) had micronaire of 3.98, fiber length of 1.36 inches, and strength of 41.5 grams / tex. Yield performance was 145 lb/acre greater than the standard variety S-7 and 19 lb/acre greater than DP 744 Pima.

Delta and Pine Land Company will also release DP 6222 RR Acala for the 2006 growing season. DP 6222 RR Acala is an early to mid maturity Acala variety with medium plant height and a seed size of 3300 to 4000 seed per pound. In the 2004 SJV Cotton Board Acala trials, DP 6222 RR Acala had fiber HVI fiber properties equal to or improved compared to the standard variety, Maxxa, or competitor Phytogen 72. DP 6222 RR Acala had fiber length of 1.15 inches, HVI strength of 33.9 g/tex, and 4.49 micronaire. Yield performance of DP 6222 RR Acala was 61 lb/acre greater than standard variety Maxxa.
