Weed Management in 15-Inch Cotton

David G. Wilson Jr. and Alan C. York. North Carolina State University, Campus Box 7620, Raleigh, NC 27695-7620

Narrow-row (15-inch) cotton production is currently being revisited with the recent commercialization of a cotton harvester that is capable of spindle-picking cotton in a 15-inch row configuration. This type production system may have a benefit to producers in North Carolina. Therefore, trials were conducted to develop an overall weed management system for Roundup Ready, Roundup Ready Flex, and Liberty Link cotton. The use of preemergence herbicides, timings of glyphosate or Ignite applications, possible tank-mixes with glyphosate or Ignite, and the fit of lay-by options in these systems will be discussed. The weeds that were evaluated included a typical mix of both broadleaf and annual grasses that occur in North Carolina.
