Relative Sampling Efficiency of the Keep-It-Simple-Sampler for Cotton Fleahoppers

Charles P.-C. Suh, USDA-ARS, APMRU, 2771 F&B Rd., College Station, TX 77845

Cotton fields in the Brazos Bottom River Production Area of Texas were sampled for cotton fleahoppers using both the Keep-It-Simple-Sampler and the standard sampling method of counting fleahoppers directly on plants. Fields were sampled three times weekly during the initial three weeks of squaring. Population estimates obtained with the KISS were compared with those obtained with the standard sampling method to determine the relative sampling efficiency of the KISS.
