During 2003-05 selected cotton varieties possessing WideStrikeTM (expressing insecticidal Bt transgenes Cry 1F and Cry 1Ac) were evaluated for suppression of variable H.zea infestations in greenhouse tests. Additionally field experiments were conducted each year near Midville, Georgia a location with high H.zea and low Heliothis virescens populations. Good suppression of fruit damage by WideStrikeTM occured under intense and moderate infestations with or without use of insecticide and was similar to Bollgard ITM and Bollgard IITM cotton. Insect control by WidestrikeTM varieties tolerant to glyphosate were not effected by use of the herbicide on the cotton.
