Degenerate primers were designed based on conserved motifs of plant disease resistance genes and were used in combination with AFLP to analyze DNA polymorphisms and gene expressions associated with disease resistance gene homologues (RGHs). Approximetely 300 polymorphic RGA-AFLP markers were developed, many of which were placed on the existing linkage map. cDNA-AFLP was also employed to study the expressions of RGHs and their relationships with disease resistance in cotton.
