The use of a cotton-peanut rotational system has been beneficial to growers that are seeking to improve yields and reduce disease development. However, peanuts that become left on or in the soil after harvest can become a problem when planted to cotton the following year. In a three-year study in west Texas using Spanish peanut, glyphosate (Roundup Weathermax) provided the most consistent control of peanuts in two of three years; however, in one year glufosinate (Ignite) provided as good of control of Spanish peanuts as glyphosate. In a two-year study in south Texas on runner peanuts, glyphosate (Roundup Ultra), glufosinate, and trifloxysulfuron (Envoke) controlled peanut greater than 95%.
