This project involves the use of performance coatings, applied both pre and post design manipulation, to cotton and other natural textiles. These natural fibers were chosen to create a fashionable performance fabric that a consumer will see as new compared to the use of coated polyester performance fabrics that have been dominant for years. By utilizing surface design, performance fabrics for apparel can push sales in areas other than the athletic market. This new avenue in fashion clothing combines surface treatments and colorful patterns, as well as new technology that surprise the wearer. This can offer a innovative product in the fashion industry that gives both functional and fashionable clothing. This is also a reminder that design is important to successfully market and sell a product and it should never be left as an afterthought.
