Cotton Specialists Working Group
Extension Cotton Specialists across the Cotton Belt will report findings from uniform study protocols that were conducted across the US. The information will be examined and discussed (where appropriate) at the state, regional and national level. The first protocol examines the efficacy of several seed and in-furrow treatments including Aeris, AVICTA Complete Pack, and Temik. These treatments were utilized with and without follow up Acephate applications. While thrips injury and nematode populations were measured, the interest the cotton specialists had in this project was evaluating the agronomic benefits associated with treatments (yield, quality, maturity). The second protocol compared the efficacy of most commercially available plant growth regulators. Stance was one plant growth regulator of particular interest as recommended rates differ compared to other products. This protocol will hopefully allow us to better understand and make recommendations for this product. Plant height, maturity, total nodes, yield and quality were the primary parameters of interest in this trial. The Cotton Specialists hope to enhance the understanding of the aforementioned products by examining them over a wide range of environments and agronomic practices. Through uniform study protocol implementation and cooperation across state lines, we feel this will be an excellent way to achieve this goal.
