Recently, there has been an interest in new products other than pesticides on cotton to increase stand and yield. A collaborative research project between Auburn University and EMD Crop Bioscience is developing new innovative products for this need.  EMD Crop Bioscience is the world’s leading developer of crop enhancing products.  EMD Crop Bioscience is a subsidiary of Merk KGaA’s North American EMD group. During the 2006 and 2007 field season, efficacy trials were conducted on cotton for stand establishment and yield increase at the Wiregrass Research Station, Headland, AL.  15 treatments were evaluated using products from EMD Crop Bioscience. These treatments were applied as seed, in-furrow and foliar. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 25 ft long, 38 inch row spacing and arranged in a randomized complete block design. There were 4 replicates per treatment and each treatment block was separated by a 20 ft alley. Seed was planted 0.5 inches deep at 4 - 5 seeds/ft of row. Tremik 15G 5 lb/A was applied to the seed furrow at planting. Thereafter, standard production practices were followed. Test plots were irrigated as needed through an overhead irrigation system. To assess the efficacy of EMD products the following measurements were taken:  seedling stand, vigor, chlorophyll content, root and shoot fresh weights, plant height, boll count and yield.  Most of the EMD products significantly improved the measured parameters. Due to it’s performance, NI-50C-6 was selected for further development. Based on EMD field trials conducted during 2006, EMD Crop Bioscience has trademarked N1-50C-6 as BoltTM. BoltTM is an LCO ( Lipo-chitooligosaccharide) promoter technology. It is a naturally occurring molecule that initiates and enhances cell division and growth in both root and shoot, immediately and independent of soil conditions. Results of BoltTM in comparison with other EMD treatments will be discussed in this presentation.
