Comparison of Insecticides & Timing of Treatments for Optimum Impact on Cotton Fleahopper

Roy D. Parker, Texas AgriLIFE Extension, Texas AgriLIFE Research & Extension Center, 10345 Hwy 44, Corpus Christi, TX 78406 and Charles F. Chilcutt, Texas AgriLIFE Research, Texas AgriLIFE Research & Extenion Center, 10345 Hwy 44, Corpus Christi, TX 78406.

Two tests were conducted. (1) Insecticide treatments in the timing study were applied beginning the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd week of squaring followed by treatment each week thereafter through the 4th week of squaring. An additional set of plots were treated in the 2nd and 4th week of squaring. (2) The chemical evaluation study measured the effectiveness of Centric (two rates), Intruder (two rates), Orthene, and a mixture of Centric + Orthene.

Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications of each treatment. Data obtained included fleahopper counts, plant growth and fruiting rates, and lint production.
