DP 161 B2RF – a New Mid-Full Maturity, High Quality Variety

David Albers, Doug Shoemaker, and Larry Burdett. Delta and Pine Land Business of Monsanto Co., 1715 Aaron Brenner Drive, Suite 301, Memphis, TN 38120

DP 161 B2RF is a new mid-full maturity variety that contains both the Bollgard 2 and Roundup Ready Flex genes from Monsanto.  DP 161 B2RF has smooth leaf pubescence with columnar fruiting type and a tall plant.  The fiber properties of DP 161 B2RF are excellent, with staple averaging 37 to 38, micronaire averaging 4.4, and fiber strength averaging 29.5 to 30 g/tex.  This variety shows outstanding performance in AZ, and other full season areas of the Cotton Belt, particularly the S. Delta.  The preliminary maturity estimate shows that DP 161 B2RF is in-between DP 143 B2RF and DP 555 BG/RR.  The presentation will include a full analysis of performance by data region, irrigation, and soil textures from the 2007 field plots.
