Performance of a Commercially Available Microwave-Based Bale Moisture Content Meter

Christopher D. Delhom, USDA-ARS Cotton Ginning Research Unit, 111 Experiment Station Rd, Stoneville, MS 70124 and Richard K. Byler, USDA-ARS, PO Box 256, Stoneville, MS 38776.

A non-contact microwave-based meter has been commercially available but independent verification of these measurements has not been available.  Samples were tested by the microwave-based meter installed at a commercial gin and compared to lint samples gathered from the bales for testing via the reference oven method.  The effect of orientation and packaging material was also measured.
