Air Temperature Distribution in Seed Cotton Drying Systems

Kevin D. Baker, USDA, Agricultural Research Service, SW Cotton Ginning Research Lab, 300 E. College Dr., P.O. Box 578, Mesilla Park, NM 88047

Air temperature distributions in seed cotton drying systems will be presented.  Drying sytems that were studied include: tower, fountain, hi-slip, pipe, hot-box, belt, jet, and big reel models.  Incoming and final seed cotton moistures were collected along with air flow rate, seed cotton flow rate, temperature range of air just prior to the mix point, and air temperature at stages after the mix point.  Data from the fall 2007 ginning season from driers in West Texas and California will be presented.
