A New Nonwovens Cotton Research Line for SRRC/USDA

Max Cochran, Louis P. Batson Company, 1 Club Road, Greenville, SC 29609 and Joern A. Lahr, TECHNOplants s.r.l., Via S. Pierino Casa al Vescovo, 1/E, Pistoia, I-51100, Italy.

In August 2007 the SRRC/USDA in New Orleans ordered a new nonwovens cotton research line to replace the equipment lost to hurricane Katrina.  This line will use the lab's existing Crosrol card to feed a cotton mat into a new cross-lapper, model CL.1010.L "Lilliput".  From there it will go into a Pre-Needle Loom, model PR.40.DUO.10 which will provide needling action down stroke followed by up stroke using two needle boards and a working width of 1.000 meters.  The maximum input speed is 15 meters/minute.  The resulting fabric will be wound up by a combined slitting and winding unit, model LC/WM 10-M.L.
