Evolution of Cotton Processing in the People's Republic of China

Mechel Paggi and Fangbin Qiao. California State University, Fresno, 2910 E. Barstow Ave. M/S OF115, Fresno, CA 93740

Changing policy in the People's Republic of China has had an influence on the evolution of the cotton processing industry. Small cotton producers are increasingly relying on direct sales of seed cotton to peddlers who in turn sell cotton to small private processors. The private industry has taken the place of former publicly owned gins resulting in increased efficiency and lower costs. The poster highlights the results of field survey work on cotton processing in the cotton production regions of Shandong, China.
