The Physiological Basis of Nitrogen Demand

Jeffrey C. Silvertooth, University of Arizona, SWES Dept., Shantz 429, Bldg. #38, Tucson, AZ 85721-0038, J. Tom Cothren, Texas AgriLife Research, Soil and Crop Sciences/Heep Center, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX 77843-2474, and Craig W. Bednarz, Texas Tech University, Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, Box 42122, Lubbock, TX 79409-2122.

The physiological basis of nitrogen (N) demand for cotton (/Gossypium spp./) will be discussed in terms of total N uptake and demand in relation to critical stages of growth, partitioning of N within the plant, source-sink relationships, and physiological responses to excesses and deficiencies of N.
