Manda Cattaneo and Luis A. Ribera. Texas Cooperative Extension, TAMU Agricultural Research & Extension Center, 2415 East Highway 83, Weslaco, TX 78596

Cotton varieties are continually being produced and marketed by various seed companies from across the U.S. in the LRGV. The testing of the varieties is deemed necessary by cotton producers in the LRGV who want to know how newer and experimental varieties perform under different conditions in the LRGV. Twenty-one cotton varieties were evaluated for yield, fiber quality and net return in a replicated large plot trial in a dryland field on the El Sauz Ranch in Willacy County, Texas. Evaluate the cotton variety performance in Willacy County. Drought conditions have had a severe impact on water availability, usage and crop performance. An on farm cotton variety trial provides beneficial information for growers to assist them in selecting the varieties that are high yielding and have exceptional quality characteristics under drought conditions.
