We collected soil samples for nematode analysis from over 200 locations across the cotton belt in 2005, and nearly 300 locations in 2006 from internal and third-party cotton variety trials. Variety performance will be compared across the range of nematode populations for both reniform and root knot nematode-infested locations. Analysis of variance and regression analyses will be utilized to determine the relationship of variety yield, fiber quality, and plant growth responses to a range of nematode populations. Preliminary results from 2005 indicated that a few varieties performed better than a well-documented nematode tolerant variety, regardless of nematode population.
