Harvesting Cotton With a Vacuum Type Header

Marty Gallaher, Vac-Tron Equipment Co., 7553 E. St. Hwy. 52, Hatrford, AL 36344

The results of harvesting cotton with the recently developed HAR-VAC vacuum cotton harvester manufactured by the Vac-Tron Equipment Co. of Okahumpka, FL. A brief description of the vacuum header itself. Basically it is the same size as a conventional type header, it has only 5 major moving parts. There are (4) rotating ported drums and (1) fan for each row, all of which are hydraulically driven. This paper will answer many of questions asked by cotton producers who are keenly interested in this new method of harvesting cotton. Such as: What % of the cotton does it harvest? How much trash is in the cotton? Will it harvest hardlock cotton? At what mph can you harvest cotton with the vacuum harvester? What is the cost per acre harvesting expense?
