Cover crop termination timing affects on cotton yields

Todd A. Baughman, Jim C. Reed Jr., and Warren G. Carter III. Texas A&M University Agricultural Research & Extension Center, P.O. Box 2159, Vernon, TX 76385

Specific objectives of this research include 1) Determine the optimum termination growth stage of a small grain cover crop that maximizes wind protection and minimizes soil moisture loss while maintaining cotton yields. 2) Determine whether termination timing varies by small grain species, wheat or rye, and which is best adapted as a potential cover crop system.
