Evaluation of LibertyLink cotton systems provided excellent control of black nightshade and pigweed with one application of Ignite at 40 oz per acre. Tank mixing Ignite (glufosinate) with either Dual Magnum (metolachlor), Staple or MSMA has exhibited increased control of larger weeds, but in this year's study there were no differences when compared to Ignite alone, as weeds (black nightshade and pigweed) were at the 2 to 4 leaf stage when treated. All treatments resulted in 98 to 100 percent control.

Field bindweed is another story. Seven days after a post-directed treatment Ignite, by itself at 40 oz per acre, was providing 75 percent control. When tank mixed with either Dual Magnum, Staple or MSMA control was 95 percent but cotton injury was observed. Ignite also gave excellent control of annual morningglory. Tankmixing Ignite with the grass herbicides still resulted in good grass and broadleaf control.

In most cases the LibertyLink system will still need other herbicides as tank mixes or apart to control weeds like nutsedge and grasses. Because of its execellent control of annual morningglory and other broadleaves and good suppression of field bindweed, Ignite herbicide will be a good fit in California as favorable Ignite tolerant varieties come along.
