In recent years, cotton producers in the High Plains of Texas have utilized PPO inhibitors as cotton defoliant/desiccants. In order to determine the efficacy of these agriculture chemicals as cotton harvest aids, small plot replicated research trials were performed. Treatments included various PPO inhibitors, boll openers and defoliant/desiccants. Plots were visually rated for percent open boll, defoliation, desiccation and green leaves at approximately 7 and 14 days after initial application (DAIT) and percent terminal and basal regrowth control at 28 DAIT. Previous small plot research results in the Texas High Plains have indicated varying degrees of performance from these harvest aids.
