Uniform Stacked Gene Cotton Variety Trials for the Upper Gulf Coast and the Brazos River Valley Regions of Texas

Dan D. Fromme, Robert G. Lemon, and Joel Pigg. Texas Cooperative Extension, 210 South Rusk Street, Wharton, TX 77488

Every year, the choice of which cotton varieties to plant is a major decision or issue each grower must make. To assist cotton growers in remaining competitive in the Upper Gulf Coast and Brazos River Valley, cotton varieties are evaluated annually at locations that represent the soil and weather conditions of these two regions.

In 2005, eight stacked-gene cotton varieties were planted at nine different locations to compare lint yield and fiber quality. The experimental design of each trial consisted of a randomized complete block and each variety was replicated three times.

The eight varieties evaluated were DPL 444BG/RR, DPL 445BG/RR, DPL 455BG/RR, ST 5599BR, ST 4575BR, FM 960B2R, FM 800B2R, and PHY 470WR.
