Peter A. Dotray, Texas Tech Univ, Texas Agric Exp Stn, Texas Coop Extn, 1102 E FM 1294, Texas Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Lubbock, TX 79403 and J. Wayne Keeling, Texas Agric Exp Stn, 1102 E FM 1294, Texas Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Lubbock, TX 79403.

Herbicide tolerant cotton varieties have been available since 1995. Weed management systems were changed dramatically since the develop of these varieties. The use of LibertyLink cotton is now two years old and the results are mixed. The use of Roundup Ready cotton has made weed management simple and effective. Next year, the use of Roundup Ready Flex cotton will improve an already effective system. Weed resistance to glyphosate has been confirmed in a number of different weed species and must be considered as we control weeds in the future. The use of additional modes of action will be an excellent start.
