Seed treatments have been a common practice for several years protecting cotton seedlings from early season diseases and insects. With the recent registration of Avicta (Abamectin), seed treatment nematicide, cotton growers across the cotton belt can now get complete early season protection against nematodes, insects and diseases with one seed treatment package, Avicta Complete Pak. Avicta Complete Pak is a promotional offering of three seed treatment products, Avicta (nematode protection), Cruiser (Thiamethoxam-insect protection) and Dynasty CST (Mefenoxam/Fludioxonil/Azoxystrobin/Myclobutanil-disease protection). Testing of this new seed treatment package has been completed throughout all cotton growing regions in the U.S., including the Western cotton belt in California and Arizona. In Western cotton production Avicta Complete Pak has demonstrated excellent seedling protection against root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita and damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani. These are two important pests for cotton growers in this region. Evaluations of root galling protection provided by the Avicta Complete Pak in various studies have demonstrated up to a 50% reduction in root galling and up to a four-fold reduction in egg masses. Avicta Complete Pak has shown significant increases in plant height, crop vigor, and yield comparable to Temik (Aldicarb) applied at 5 lbs/A. In conclusion, Avicta Complete Pak offers a complete early season pest control solution for Western cotton growers with the convenience of a seed delivery application method.
