Pigweed control in Liberty Link Cotton

A. P. Gardner and A. C. York. North Carolina State University, Campus Box 7620, Raleigh, NC 27695-7620

Liberty Link cotton was commercialized in 2004. These cotton systems provide growers with another tool to control a broad spectrum of weeds using only one herbicide. A grower has the option to apply Ignite herbicide from emergence to early bloom stage to control a broad spectrum of weeds. These systems also provide a grower with an herbicide resistance management tool. In some instances, Ignite has been found to be provide inadequate control of pigweed species. Therefore, trials were conducted in 2004 and 2005 to evaluate control of pigweeds using four preemergence herbicides coupled with different topical application timings of Ignite.
