Staple Utility in Roundup Ready Cotton Systems

Loston Rowe, Jeff H. Meredith, and Eric P. Castner. DuPont Crop Protection, Rte 141 & Faulkland Roads, Chestnut Run Plaza, LR-2S5, Wilmington, DE 19805

Staple herbicide is one of the most flexible products available for cotton weed control. The over-the-top crop safety of Staple makes it a natural complement to glyphosate in Roundup Ready cotton. DuPont researchers have evaluated various use-rates and application timings to determine the most effective positioning of Staple in Roundup Ready programs, including in new Roundup Ready Flex cotton. Test results indicated that sequential applications of Staple at reduced rates provided good soil residual activity on grasses and broadleaves, allowing for a wider window between herbicide applications and minimized weed competition. Staple also improved foliar performance of RoundUp on tough to control weeds like morningglory, pigweeds and prickly sida.
