INTELLIGIN On-Line Fiber Length Trial

Joe Yankey, Mike Galyon, Warren Landis, and Dr. Roger Riley. Uster Technologies, 456 Troy Circle, Knoxville, TN 37919

The paper will describe the installation and operation of an INTELLIGIN prototype module for measuring fiber length. Information will be provided on the installation details and operations of the automated length module. Operations of the module will be shown using video, pictures and schematics. Prototype trails will be presented from initial module installation in a micro gin to a commercial installation in a gin during the 2005 season. Results will be presented on the length results from the automatic on-line length module. On-line length results will be analyized and compared to the HVI classing data on individual bales processed through the gin. Sampling variability and challenges in obtaining a consistent fiber sample will be investigated. Possibilities for on-line length classification will be discussed and future trails outlined.
