Alabama Precision Agriculture Survey Results

Robert Goodman, Dept Ag Econ, Auburn University, 202 Comer Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849, Algeria

Results for Alabama from a six state survey of cotton farmers concerning their attitude towards and adoption of precision agriculture technology is presented. Responses were compared to those from a previous survey, and opportunities for increased education and technical support to promote adoption of precision agriculture technologies were discovered.

Results indicated that relatively few Alabama cotton farmers had fully implemented precision agricultural technologies. Farmers were mostly uncertain regarding costs and benefits of many precision agriculture technologies, but most were able to identify at least one such technology that they felt would be beneficial in their fields. Use of a yield monitor on a picker and GPS row guidance were the precision agriculture technologies most often identified as at least potentially beneficial
